Introduction to Alcohol and Drugs

Responsible or sensible drinking is a normal part of adult life.  Many of us look forward to a glass of wine with a meal, or a cold pint on a hot summer's evening (remember them?). With all the stress and pressures around, it is easy to turn that occasional drink into a habit that's difficult to break.

This online survey demonstrates just how expensive that evening habit can cost, both financially and to your health.  If you're counting the calories whilst you're in work and comparing fat free diets with colleagues, do you mention your evening alcohol calories, or don't they count?!

Have a look at the survey - you may be surprised (or horrified) by the number of calories those occasional glasses of wine contain.  If you're a bit skint after Christmas, the calculator also shows the annual cost of your drinking, perhaps something you could look at to make savings this year?

The big surprise for me was just how long it can take for alcohol to leave your bloodstream, something to bear in mind if you have a late night drinking session and have to be in work the next morning.  Are you sure you're not still under the influence?
