Introduction to Accidents and Injuries

Home Safety Facts and Figures

It is a worrying fact that more accidents happen at home than anywhere else.

Children under the age of 5, and people over 75 are the groups most likely to be injured in accidents at home, and more than half of the accidental injuries involve falling.  About 25,000 under 5s attend Accident and Emergency Departments after being accidentally poisoned each year, with a further 26,000 of the same age group being burnt or scalded at home.

Hot drinks remain warm enough to scald a small child up to 15 minutes after they are made, so ensure that they are out of reach of youngsters.

Home accidents and injuries have been estimated to cost a staggering £25,000 million each year. So, take home safety seriously - because statistically, even if you  buy a ticket every week in a year you are twenty times more likely to suffer a fatal home accident that you are to win the National Lottery!!
